Renew’s story

started in 5th grade

for Pastor Wilson

In 5th grade, when other kids were dreaming about becoming an astronaut, firefighter or teacher, I thought, one day I want to start a church and I'll have a sign that says: "for imperfect people only." That sign sits at the front door of Renew Church OC and comforts everyone who walks in as well as myself. It reminds me every Sunday that I get to be flawed, raw, silly and me.

We are a church for imperfect people only.

As the 20 years passed, I had the privilege of working for several churches and volunteered with Cru, homeless shelters, foster group homes and lead a bible study at a prison. In all of these moments, I felt God color and share the church that He was calling me to launch.

Renew continues to walk towards it’s vision and core values - we are becoming beautifully multicultural - our church is heavily invested in a foster summer camp and mentoring program - we love His Word and preach the Bible clearly - we are willing to talk about the hard stuff and tackle it together

The start of the story was just me and Jesus, but the rest of it is about a people that has loved, served and birthed this community.

I’m praying you would help write Renew’s story with us.

Year 8 | A New Home

God closed the doors of the meridian and opened a new one at Brea Civic Center. It’s was like moving into a brand new home where we could dream and expand our church family.

Year 7 | Moving Out

We say good bye to our first home and remember all the ways this space has shaped us. We grew up resilience, focused on worship and weather resistant

Year 6 | Playing Together

I love how we can be kids together. Dressing up, playing games and laughing is all part of being family.

Year 5.5 | Drive-In Church

We got innovative over covid and held monthly drive-in services to gather again.

Year 5.0 | Zoom Church

We spent a year getting closer while being 6ft apart. Zoom daily devotionals, Zoom small groups and Zoom Church didn’t stop us from sharing, praying and loving His Word.

Year 4 | Baptism+Bonfire

We love our beach baptisms, it’s a family affair. No baptism is complete without street tacos and a bonfire.

Year 3 | Anniversary

We do anniversaries every year, because we’re like a kid under 10 that demands to be celebrated for still being alive.

Year 2 | Story

We started a church because we want people to meet Jesus and becoming Renewed.

Year 1 | We’re Open

It’s our first Sunday, after 8 months of prep and invites. Renew is born. The service was filled with hope, dreams and optimism.
